BREAST CANCER AND IODINE

By Dr. Alby Ford

NEW RESEARCH SHOWS HOW TO PREVENT AND HOW TO SURVIVE
BREAST CANCER

Most doctors know very little about the wonderful nutrient called iodine. It is the orphan of the mineral world, but yet plays the most important role in the prevention of female cancers (ovarian, breast, thyroid, cervix and colon) as well as a number of chronic diseases.

Iodine has many functions in the human body, but the most important being:

- used to make thyroid hormone
- is the bodies main surveillance mechanism for abnormal cells in the body
- triggers apoptosis (programmed cell death) in normal and abnormal cells

Dr. D.M. Derry – obtained his medical degree at the University of British Columbia and a Ph.D in Neurochemistry from McGill University. At the University of Toronto he became a Medical Research Council Scholar. He is author to several books and has published numerous research papers in peer reviewed medical journals.
This is what he has to say about iodine and breast cancer:

- fibrocystic breast disease results from the excess number of cells that grow in the breast during the menstrual cycle as a result of hormonal stimulation
- cells are removed to restore the breasts to a normal state by iodine (Iodoral®)
- these left over cells build up over repeated cycles and eventually lumps, soreness and larger lesions of fibrocystic disease emerge
- approx. 60% of all women do not experience any noticeable symptoms, but the change is nevertheless there and can be microscopically detected
- enough iodine (Iodoral®) enables the excess cells to be cleared out and the breasts can return to its normal resting state
- fibrocystic disease over years of hormonal stimulation, plus the addition of oral contraceptives and hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) eventually can tend to cause some cells to change to cancer cells.
- therefore, women with fibrocystic breast disease are at risk and susceptible to breast cancer
- the reaction of iodine (Iodoral) with tyrosine, destroys the protein and consequently the cell itself
- tyrosine is hidden from the cells surface under normal circumstances and therefore cannot react with iodine to cause cell death. However, during abnormal cell development, tyrosine molecules are slowly exposed to the surface, thus the apoptosis (cell death) mechanism can be triggered
- thyroid hormone controls the connective tissue barrier and prevents the spread of cancer cells (metastases)
- iodine (Iodoral®) and thyroxine act as a team to provide constant surveillance against abnormal cell development
- in cases of breast cancer, using iodine (Iodoral) and thyroid hormone, the cancer will grow extremely slowly and probably not affect the lives of the women who have it

Eskin, Stoddard & Ghent et.al. 1977 – 2006: Published their research findings:

- iodine (Iodoral®) alters gene expression in breast cancer: evidence for an anti-oestrogen effect of iodine
- the lack of iodine is responsible for enhanced oestrogen receptor activity
- iodine therapy for fibrocystic breast disease
- iodine (Iodoral) treatment for fibrocystic dysplasia, breast cancer, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and premenstrual syndrome
- the thyroid gland and breast cancer: a significant association
- there is a direct relationship between thyroid disease and breast cancer

To prevent most of the common problems that women experience, we seriously recommend that all women take Iodoral® (iodine) on a daily basis for the rest of their lives to significantly lower the incidence of thyroid disease and breast cancer.

Iodoral can be purchased from Dr. Ford’s practice – please enquire
